The joy of Bunkbeds

As they were jumping this evening (not something we do all the time, but our house is a little turned upside down right now as we pack) Larson says to me: "Mom, this time I'm going to try to land on my back"
Me: "I don't think that is a good idea Larson. I don't think that is safe"
Larson: " Oh, Mom. Don't worry, God will protect me"

Aw, sweet.....yes, a little.
Also, trying to get away with something Mom advises against......definitely.

Me: "Larson, God does protect us, but He also wants us to make good choices."

He decided to land on his feet.
Secily also decided to make a good choice & jump from the bottom bunk!

Erik & Yuriko

My little brother Erik, and my sister-in-law, Yuriko are so creative. They are hugely talented, and were so kind to take some family pictures of us while they were here this past month. I'm still going through them, trying to decide Christmas card, baby announcement (yes, for Jane. Yes, it's late. very. late.) But the pics are too good not to post a few of them....

I'd take bookings for them, but, as it turns out, they will be travelling the world for the next 5 months! They are flying to Cairo, Egypt right now, and have long list of places that they are going. You can check out their travelling website here.

Family Night Fail

So, the second family night in October was set to be Apple Night. Apples were bought, caramels were bought, apple plates were made,

pin-the-apple-on-the-tree game was ready to go......we started decorating our apples,

and then, well, the evening fell apart.

Ryan had to go pick up some moving boxes
Dinner was late.
Really late.

We didn't do caramel apples.
We didn't play our game.

But, we did eat apples.
And, Lucy was over. So, that was fun.

Ah - you win some, you lose some. On to better things in November......

:)

Halloween

The kids were so excited for Halloween this year.

They, at first, thought that they just wanted to dress up and pass out candy at our house.

I talked them into trick-or-treating at our next door neighbor's house, just to try it out.
Turns out they loved it. We went around the whole block.
Then, they came home and did what seems to be ingrained in every child - dumped their bucket of candy out to see what they got!
Such a fun night!

Serves me right...

for leaving my nail polish out. She decided to paint her own nails....I guess it's good that it's close to Halloween!

I helped her finish. Can you tell which ones she did & which ones I did?

:)

Aunt Jan

My Mom is from a family of 5 girls. FIVE.

Mom is number 3 in the line up, and my Aunt Jan, number 2, came to visit this past week.

We had a great time with her - shopping, talking, shopping, laughing, shopping, reminiscing, shopping.... you get the idea.

My Aunt Jan is such a great lady, it was so fun to spend time with her!

Fall Festival

Our church's fall festival carnival was last Friday night. The kids were VERY excited to put on their costumes, and go have fun! I didn't get great pictures, but if you head over to Ryan's blog, he did a great video of the night.

Cinderella and Mickey were glad to see each other,

All the cousins were there, so fun!

Wolverine did not wear his mask, he thought it would be too scary for the other kids.

The other kids thank you, Wolverine.
